Key card to the top

This week has been a difficult week emotionally for our marriage - back from vacation, back to reality.

Nevertheless, last night’s visit to Detroit helped me too realize the brighter side. The past couple nights, Herb has been hounding me to come visit him. After work today, I ventured to Detroit to visit Herb at his home away from home for the next few weeks. The Double Tree Hotel, room 543 is Herb’s little lion den for now. The Detroit Lions have reserved the top two floors of the hotel for the duration of NFL training camp. In the elevator, a key card is required to even access those floors! In the hallways are mini fridges full of complimentary beverages. Made me feel a little VIP, if ya know what I mean.

After Herb gave me the tour of the neighborhood (ghetto) and showed off his fancy play books, we made a visit to the Olive Garden for dinner. All of Herb’s talk about the food at the Lion’s facility (filet mingon, salmon & wild rice, shrimp & lobster scampi, etc), really worked up the appetite. Our server offered $0.25 samples of a blush wine for dinner and it was delicious. Delicious enough for me to order a glass – yum. Dinner was wonderful, and our conversations were even better. I felt loved and appreciated which helped to battle my recent insecurities. We topped the night off with a visit to Target 5 minutes before they closed for peanut butter M&M’s and Starburst candies. The night was a perfect way to reconnect as husband & wife, for better or worse.
