5 games in 25 days...

I have a very busy husband these days.  Five games in 25 days!  WOW.  When things are busy, time flies, so I wanted to take a moment to highlight the season thus far.

Herb's coaching bio:

Herb Haygood joined Miami University football's coaching staff in August of 2011. He will serve as an offensive intern, assisting with the RedHawk wide receivers.

Most recently, Haygood was an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State, coaching wide receivers and special teams from 2007 to 2010. Just prior to that, he served in the same capacities at Olivet College in 2006 and '07.

Haygood also was an intern and student assistant strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, Michigan State University, in 2005.

An outstanding receiver at Michigan State University, Haygood won four varsity letters for the Spartans from 1997-2001 and was elected team captain his senior year. Current Miami head coach Don Treadwell was Haygood's receiver coach at MSU. Herb also was an All-American kick returner for the Spartans.

As a professional athlete, Haygood was drafted in the fifth round of the 2002 National Football League draft by the Denver Broncos. He was picked up later by the Indianapolis Colts. In 2004, Haygood played for Scottish Claymore in NFL Europe, the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs and the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes. He spent the 2006 season with the Tampa Bay Storm in the Arena Football League.

In 2010, Haygood earned a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Detroit Lions.

One thing I love about home games is skydiving the game ball!  Although at one particularly windy game, the skydiver had a close call with the jumbo screen.  Yikes!

Last week was our last Saturday game - how weird that the next 4 games are on a Thursday, two Wednesdays and a Tuesday?  All in the name of televised football. 

Dad brought the good luck against Buffalo and the RedHawks won big 41 to 13!  Mom was away on her annual fall "Tuesday Mom's" getaway at the condo and Dad ventured to the Ox.  We even celebrated after the game at a german bar for Halloween.  We watched a very peculiar band called "The Menus".  Good rock music, but very weird performers.

After the Buffalo game Herb received a very nice e-mail from a player's parent.  Because I'm a proud wife, here it is:

Hello Mr. Haygood,

My name is Nick ******. Chris ****** is my youngest son. In discussions with Chris you have been mentioned as someone whom he respects very much. He has told me that you have helped him with more than just football. That is an immense benefit to me. When he can find role models and mentors to help him develop, I'm very appreciative. Last night was a super soaker game against Akron.  It downpoured the ENTIRE game.  Despite my poncho gear and hot chocolate in the bathroom during half time, I chickened out in the middle of the 3rd quarter and escaped home to watch the rest of the game on ESPNU.  It was another big win 35 to 3!

Next Tuesday the guys leave for Philadelphia for a Wednesday night game against Temple.  Then it's Western Michigan for the last home game and finally away at Ohio Thanksgiving week.  I CAN'T believe football season is almost over.  I'm not ready!
