Life is Fragile

We were reminded all too harshly how fragile and precious life is - on January 25th Herb's best friend from childhood and best man at our wedding was shot and killed by a robber in Sarasota, FL.  Jeff was such a special friend to Herb, they grew up together, played sports together and Herb even lived at his family's house during high school.  Jeff was Herb's quarterback in high school and they both went on the play college football.  No matter how many miles apart, Jeff always had and always will hold a special place in Herb's heart.  His friendship was genuine and his smile was amazing.  Herb treasures childhood memories with all things Jeff!

Jeff, Herb's Best Man at our Wedding
March 1st, 2003

Herb and I were able to take off work on Friday and drive down to Florida to be with Jeff's family and friends.  We attended a very memorable visitation and funeral service.  It was incredible to see the community members and friends old and new who came out to pay their respects.  It was heart wrenching to see Jeff's pre-teen daughter, Brandanesha grieve her father.  Herb made a promise to her that if she ever needed anything or wanted to talk that he would just be a phone call away.

While in Florida for the weekend, Herb and I made it a point to appreciate the life we have been blessed with and the moments within.  Morning run on the bridge to Lido Key, lunch date and movie with mom, snacks for Lil' Nuke, a drive along the water, a visit to the Purple Cow, and a special lunch on the water at a little bait and tackle shack.

God will take care of all his children.  Tough times test our faith, but our faith is strong and we will hold on to it.  Faith is the evidence of things unseen.  Even though we can't see a reason for what has happened, we can have faith that there is a reason in His plan.   We will continue to be inspired by Jeff's life and he will live in our memories.
